FinCom Translation Services is owned and run by me, Pertti Hietaranta, a recently retired Professor of English with special reference to translation at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

I worked at the University of Helsinki from 1986 to 2016 as a professor-level translator training specialist educating future translators for the language pair English/Finnish. For all this time, I also worked as a practising translator on the side, and it is in this latter capacity that I still continue to work.

On account of my background and experience, I am thus familiar not only with the practical aspects of translation but also with the theoretical underpinnings of translation, which can help one understand why and how certain adaptations and other changes need to be made in the course of the translation process to make the translation look and sound natural in its own cultural setting.
